Frenectomy Treatment Cedar Park

Frenectomy is a minor surgical procedure to release Tied Tongue and Upper Lip. If your baby was born with a lip or Tongue Tie, it can affect every aspect of his or her overall health. Lip or tongue tie can interfere with nursing and eating, affecting the child’s health, with nutritional and speech issues in the future, if left untreated.

Infant Frenectomy

Dr. Deepa Naik sees infants as early as a day after birth, to correct abnormally attached labial frenum or lingual frenum. The procedure is done in the office using laser technology, eliminating the need for an operating room. We make it a priority to fit in infants right away.

Our goal is to support moms and babies with successful breast feeding. Dr. Naik also works closely with lactation consultants, pediatric chiro practitioners, myofunctional therapists and Sacro – cranial therapists for a more holistic approach.

Adolescent Frenectomy

Surgical treatment for older children or adults, called frenuloplasty, is performed under general anesthesia with surgical instruments. After the frenulum is cut, the wound is closed with sutures, which are usually absorbed when the tongue heals.

Posterior Tongue Tie (Ankyloglossia):

It is a congenital defect, a condition in which the piece of tissue which connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth (the frenulum) is unusually shorter in length than typically seen. The shortening of the frenulum limits the tongue mobility. Newborn posterior tongue tie can disturb the process of sucking during breast feeding. In older children, it can lead to malocclusion, speech defects and swallowing problems.

Labial Frenectomy:

This is a form of frenectomy performed on the lip. The labial frenulum often attaches to the center of the upper lip and between the upper two front teeth, usually in children as their teeth and gums develop. This can cause a large gap and gum recession by pulling the gums off the bone.
